Earlier robots had not been able to recognize voices. They could be able to do this with the help of microphone which used to near a person’s mouth. But a technology has been developed by the team of scientists of Arya College of Engineering and IT which is having the idea through which robots would be able to hear sound with their own ears like humans. For this research area, the entry barrier was very high as it involves a combination of single processing along with robotics and artificial intelligence. Many important facts have been considered in the development of this technology.

For estimating that where the sound is coming from, there was sound source technology and for extracting the direction from which the sound originates, sound source technology has been created as well as to recognize separated sounds from background noise, automatic speech recognition technology has been created which was similar to how humans can recognize speech from across a noisy lot. In order to implement these keys in real environment and real time, these techniques have been pursued by the research team with Wide Scope of Systems and Networking. They developed the technology for the purpose of distinguishing simultaneous speech from multiple people.

A demonstration has also been given by the researchers in order to know that whether the robots could handle multiple answering simultaneously or not. This technology is a kind of a system that could detect voices, mobile devices sounds along with other sounds from disaster victims through background noise of a drone that has been developed in order to assist in faster victim recovery. A map data has been provided by the researchers which was an outcome of their research on high performance GPS. This system has been made up with the help of three main elements. The first is the microphone array technology which was based on open source software.

For supporting embedded use, this software was extended while also maintaining its noise robustness. For decreasing its weight and taking advantages of high speed data processing, the researchers embedded this version on a drone. It has been realized by B Tech Mechanical Engineering that microphone array processing could be performed inside a microphone array device which attached to the drone and it is not necessary that it would send all of the captured signals to a base station wire lessly. This total data transmission volume has been dramatically reduced for making it possible to detect sound sources even through the noise generated by the drone itself.
