In order to develop a tiny, fully portable system that could encapsulate and analyze biomarkers in a sweat of a person, the researchers have been teamed up with the engineers. Arya College of Engineering and IT have presented a low power system which fits on a chip. This system could directly be placed on a person’s skin or integrated into a bracelet.
For giving valuable insight into the health of wearer, it analyzes specific biomarkers which are contained in sweat. The sodium and potassium can be determined by this system in a person’s sweat. For example: measuring their body temperature and ph.
The all data which has been collected through this can be directly sent to a person’s smart phone. The capillary action has been used by this system to pump miniscule amounts of sweat into the heart of the chip where it is analyzed. Four silicon sensors are to be contained by this chip that is around only 20 nanometers thick which makes them extremely sensitive. In order to detect different biomarkers, each sensor is coated with a different material and by Designing Intelligent Cooling systems
Measurement of a host of variables ranging from electrolytes and metabolites to tiny molecules and proteins could be done by depositing different biochemical layers on each of the miniature sensors. Two fluidic layers are included in this chip that sit between the chip and user’s skin.
These layers help in pumping up the sweat from the skin and then they carry it to the sensors. It runs continuously and without electricity because this pump relies entirely on capillary action.
This is the only device which includes such a system on a chip. Even sensors have been used by the today’s most advances devices that are 10,000 times bigger than this system and a larger volume is needed of sweat to be able to effectively analyze biomarkers. Such extreme miniaturization was made possible because of the sensor technology.
This system is very useful for the students of B Tech IT engineering in terms of detecting diseases and getting a snapshot of the health of the user. Important data could be given with the help of this system in order to insight into the both a user’s health and wellness. For example: An early indication of cystic fibrosis can be given by the chlorine levels, and ion levels can signal dehydration. Measurement of other biomarkers can flag symptoms of fatigue and stress and eventually risk factors for other illness.
